Lynch
Jane Lynch has officially been set as Emmy host. With the Sept. 18 kudocast on Fox, Lynch - a regular on the net's musical dramedy "Glee" who had long been speculated as host - was a logical choice.Fox is the first network to telecast the Emmys under the new eight-year "wheel" agreement, where the Big Four broadcast nets will rotate airing the show. Under the long-negotiated pact, the TV Academy is set to receive $8.25 million annually in license fees. This year's telecast, from the Nokia Theater in downtown L.A., will be exec produced by reality guru Mark Burnett. It's typical that networks telecasting the Emmys suggest one of their top personalities to host. Last year's show on NBC - with Jimmy Fallon as host - was one of the best reviewed Emmycasts in recent years. In 2008, the show took a critical drubbing when five reality hosts shared emcee duties."Jane was my first, and only, choice as the host for this year's primetime Emmys, and I am glad she said yes," said Burnett. "She has incredible comedic timing, and is a charismatic, talented actress whose energy leaps off the screen and stage."Said Lynch: "I'm looking forward to singing, dancing and sporting my finest tracksuit."The Emmys, once one of TV's biggest draws, will face stiff competition this year. NBC is countering with the Philadelphia Eagles-Atlanta Falcons game as part of its NFL "Sunday Night Football" package - assuming, of course, that the current lockout is settled and games will be played in September.
