Jury finds Samsung guilty in Apple patent case, over $1B in ...

It could be a windfall ruling for Apple, as the jury found Samsung guilty of violating multiple patents after less than three days of deliberations. Among the patents that Samsung infringed on were those related to display ?bounce back,? scrolling, zooming, and navigating features.

At least one victory, albeit a small one, for Samsung is that the jury did not find Samsung guilty of infringing on Apple?s design patents as they relate to the Galaxy Tab. This is an interesting part of the verdict since that appeared to be the catalyst that led to the massive legal battle between the two companies.

Apple was seeking $2.5 billion in damages. Monetary details will be decided later, and it could be years before this entire ordeal is actually set to rest, but for today, it is a huge victory for Apple with industry-wide implications that will take weeks and months to digest.

Update 7:51 PM ET: The jury?s final verdict totals $1.051 billion in damages. In total, the jury found Samsung willfully infringed on five out of the six Apple patents at issue. On Samsung?s countersuit, the jury found Apple not guilty on all claims.
