Golf tournament held on Saturday

The Fletcher Parks and Recreation Department will host the third Sidewinder Disc golf tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fletcher Park, 85 Howard Gap Road.

Player registration will be 9-10 a.m. at the Steelcase Shelter. The entry fee is $20 per player. For more information, call 828-687-0751 ext. 140.

Protecting our summer camps

FLAT ROCK ? Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, Henderson County's local land trust, will celebrate summer camps and "preserving our past" at its 12th annual Conservation Celebration Sept. 15 at Camp Pinnacle in Flat Rock.

CMLC protects seven unique summer camps among the Blue Ridge Mountains with conservation easements totaling more than 3,500 acres. Camps are at the core of the organization's conservation efforts.

This year's Conservation Celebration will feature live music by Motownblue, local cuisine catered by Posana Caf? of Asheville, and both live and silent auctions. Items in the live auction include a week vacation in Costa Rica.

The event will also include a drawing for CMLC's esteemed Mountains of the World Raffle. The winner, chosen from only 150 tickets sold, will get to choose a trip to Patagonia or the Montana Rockies.

Volunteer fair set for Saturday

The third Henderson County volunteer fair will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Blue Ridge Mall on Four Seasons Boulevard, Hendersonville.

All organizations that depend on volunteers are welcome. The cost of space is free for members of Henderson County Association of Volunteer Administrators and $10 for all others. To join HAVA is $15 for the year, and it covers the space as well.

HAVA is anticipating more than 20 organizations, which depend on volunteers, to participate in this event. Anyone seeking volunteer opportunities are encouraged to drop in and see what the community has to offer.

Dr. Fozzard to speak at meeting

Dr. Harry A Fozzard will speak at the Democratic Women of Henderson County meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Three Chopt, 103 Third Ave. E.

His topic is "The U.S. Medical Care Bubble." Fozzard was chief of cardiology at the University of Chicago. He and his wife own an apple orchard in Dana , and Fozzard currently volunteers with the Free Clinic, ECO and Pisgah Legal Services. Everyone is invited.
